This TRUST1 project is coordinating the general TRUST project, managing the sub projects. TRUST 1 has an inter- and multidisciplinary approach since it brings researchers from all the four main Swedish engineering universities working the built environment (SBU) together – Chalmers (Gothenburg), KTH (Stockholm), LTU (Luleå) and LU (Lund). The project also includes Uppsala University, Arhus University (Denmark), SKB and SGU, as well as a number of private companies and funders, for example Sven Tyréns Foundation.

Innovation and implementation
Coordination, information and communication between the sub projects is a fundamental part of the whole TRUST project. This is achieved by the following activities:
1.Document and data is stored on a common project server, which is the information hub for all members of the TRUST project.
2.Monthly telephone or Skype meetings with all sub project managers
3.Workshops two times a year where all TRUST members gather under different themes
4.Initializing PhD courses
5.Supporting establishment of a common database for all underground geotechnically related data
Models for sustainable innovation collaboration between universities and the industry will be developed, focusing on underground infrastructure building. All the TRUST R&D projects will use the Bypass Stockholm project as a common case study where, among other ideas, the following will be studied:
1.Which are the most important actors and how is the communication between academia and the industry organized and handled?
2.Which parameters are affecting the innovation process? Positive and negative.
3.How is the TRUST –umbrella affecting the innovation processes in the separate sub projects and the innovation capability among the organizations involved?
4.How should the collaboration between academia and the industry be organized, in order to improve the innovation capability regarding underground infrastructure building?

The total TRUST budget is 70 mill SEK and supports 14 PhD students, 1 post doc, 28 Sr researchers in 5 Swedish universities and approximately 20 researchers in the industry, authorities and institutes.
The Management sub project has a budget of 5.1 mill SEK, financed by BeFo, Formas and SBUF/NCC.
