4.1 GeoBIM - Development of methods for rational and fast interpretation of geotechnical preinvestigations

 

This project aims at:

•Developing a database for geotechnical data

•Configuring applications for visualizing 2D and 3D geotechnical and geological models

•Developing a tool for multivariat analysis of geotechnical data

•Developing a GeoBIM concept

 

The GeoBIM database will be configured to import and export all current geotechnically related data types and data formats used in large infrastructure projects – soundings, samplings, core drillings, geophysical logging etc

The visualization tools will be configured for optimal interpretation of geomodels and for communication of geotechnical data and interpreted models, both for the geotechnical engineers but also for other engineering disciplines, clients, authorities and the society in general.

 

The tool for multivariate analysis aims at:

1.All data in the GeoBIM database will be quality assured and validated, resulting in that every decision that is based on the data in the database is followed by a known statistical uncertainty

2.The multivariate analysis could at any time be used to answer if the available data is enough for a certain decision to a low enough degree of uncertainty. And if not the multivariate analysis tool could be used for calculating how a complementary investigation would be designed.

 

The GeoBIM concept, including the database, the tool for multivariate analysis together with the visualization tool will handle all the data storage and communication between the TRUST sub projects, and be the core of the whole TRUST project.

 

The three main parts of the GeoBIM project are:

1.Development of GeoBIM database for organizing all geotechnical data typical for a large infrastructure project

2.Development of a tool for multivariate analysis of geotechnical data

3.Configuring a tool for visualizing interpreted geo models in 2D and 3D

Vision

 

The GeoBIM project -TRUST 4.1 - will lead to:

•A more efficient communication of geo related data between all parts in an infrastructure project – clients, geotechnical engineers, politicians, other technical disciplines, authorities etc, in all phases of a project in a lifecycle perspective

•Optimization of the field investigation program

•Best possible and risk valued interpretation of the geotechnical and geological conditions, the best possible geo model

Aims

 

Using multivariate analysis of the geotechnical data will result in lower total project costs

GeoBIM will:

•Support a more efficient resource optimization

•Lead to more efficient geo information handling and communication in the infrastructure building industry

•Design a database with high flexibility concerning adding new methods

•Be the fundament for a Swedish nation database for geotechnically related information

•Bring all geo related data in an infrastructure project in good order

•Be user friendly
